MUSEUM OF ANATOMY AND PATHOLOGY

Distance from Hotel Tranquil Manipal: 700 Meters.
Driving Time: 3 minutes
Timings: 8 AM to 6 PM

Museum of Anatomy and Pathology (MAP), is a must visit place while you are in Manipal.

MAP hosts one of the largest collections of human specimens. To see the specimens preserved with great care deserves a lot of praise.

VENUGOPAL
TEMPLE

VGT (as is commonly known among Manipalites) is a serene temple. As the name suggests, Lord Krishna is worshipped here.

There is a Temple of Ganapati and Hanuman as well in the temple compound.

While visiting the temple, do not forget to taste the famous local dish Chumuri (tangy and spicy puffed rice preparation) that is sold outside the temple.

HASTA SHILPA HERITAGE VILLAGE.

Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village is a treasure trove for the brilliant architecture of an all but forgotten age.

The heritage village is an internationally recognised heritage site. Mr Vijaynath Shenoy built it as a passion project in the 70s and 80s, the objective of which was to preserve the local culture and heritage in the wake of wonton modernisation.

Every Saturday and Sunday between 7 to 8:30 PM in the evening, several structures of the Heritage Village glow elegantly in the night for more than an hour.

Heritage by night has proved to be a memorable experience for all visitors.

MANNAPALLA / MANIPAL LAKE

Located at a distance of just under 1.5 KMS from Hotel Tranquil Manipal, this lake is spread across 100 acres and is home to a wide variety of birds. If you love jogging, this is a must visit place for you.

During monsoons, the lake is filled to the brim and is a sight to behold. The lake is surrounded by a lot of greenery all around the year.

KRISHNA
TEMPLE

Considered to be one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in South India, the Krishna Temple or the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha is known for the worship of Lord Krishna. Founded by Madhwacharya, the proponent of the Dwaita Philosophy, the fascinating idol of the Lord is adorned with jewels and a golden chariot. What makes the temple unique, is the way the deity is worshipped. The prayers and process of the whole worship take place only through a silver-plated window with nine holes called the Navagraha Kitaki. Several temples such as Udupi Anantheshwara Temple surround the Shree Krishna Matha. These temples trace back to 1,000 years.

MALPE
BEACH

Malpe is one of the cleanest beaches that you can explore. Maple Beach is one of the must visit places while you stay with us. This scenic beach is popular amongst locals and foreigners alike. The clean white sand and pleasant weather make Malpe Beach an ideal spot to indulge in a variety of water sports.

The never-ending seashore of this hidden gemstone of Karnataka has four rocky islands. The northern-most island is the Daria-Bahadurgad, the middle one is the Daria-Gadara-Kallu, while the southernmost island is the Kari-Illada-Kallu. The fourth rocky island, St. Mary’s Island is the most famous and frequently visited one. This out of the ordinary beach is situated at the mouth of the Udyavara River, which is a small river that flows around this beach and is commonly referred to as the Malpe River by the general masses.

The place is a lovely amalgamation of all things unique- adventure sports, peaceful walks, pleasant weather and a serene environment. 

ST MARY’S
ISLAND

Ferry Timings: 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM

This is a must visit Islands, especially during the months of December to March. The distance from Hotel Tranquil Manipal to the St Mary’s Boating Office is a mere 11 KM’s. From here, you will be taking a boat to the Island that is located 4 KM from the Malpe coast.

St Mary’s Island, also known as Coconut Islands, are a set of four small Islands off the coast of Malpe in Udupi. Legend has it that Portuguese Explorer Vasco Da Gama journeyed through these islands seeking Mother Mary’s intervention on his voyage towards Kozhikode in Kerala. The Islands have unique rock formations, white sand, coconut trees and blue waters that make it ideal for a family picnic

St Mary’s Island is closed for tourists from June to September.

PAJAKA
KSHETRA

Pajaka Kshetra is the birthplace of the Hindu saint Madhvacharya, the proponent of the Dwaita Philosophy. The importance of Pajaka Kshetra is also narrated in a small biographical poem called Sampradaya Paddati who’s author is Sri Madhvacharya’s direct disciples Sri Hrukesha, the mula yati of Sri Palimaru Matha.

BENGRE HOODE BEACH DELTA POINT

Each beach along coastal Karnataka is beautiful. But Delta Point is unique as it is where the river joins the sea. The four beaches at Kemmannu offer tourists endless opportunities to explore at leisure.

This is one of the most scenic beaches that you will ever come across. One unique feature about this beach is that it is surrounded by huge rocks.

Sitting on one of these huge rocks and watching the sun set is a mesmerising experience that one will cherish forever.

While visiting Kaup Beach, do not forget to climb up the majestic Lighthouse that is housed on one of the rocks overlooking the Arabian Sea. The Kaup light house is open for visitors only for a short time in the evenings. Please confirm the timings to avoid disappointment.

AMRUTESHWARI TEMPLE, KOTA

Also known as “halavu makkala taayi” which roughly translates to mother to many children, Amrutheshwari Temple is adjacent to the NH66 at Kota.

 

The Sanctum Sanctorum of the Mata is surrounded by several Granite Stones which are considered her many Children. Those seeking boons anoint these stones with oil and pray to the Mother Goddess.

One can feel the divine blessings if you pray reverently to the Mother.

PADUBIDRI
BEACH

Padubidri beach is approximately a kilometre’s drive from NH66 saddled between Kaup in the north and Mulki to the south. The long stretch of quiet and well-maintained beach is a great place to spend the evening. As the sun sets the flashing of the nearby lighthouses of Kaup and Surathkal make a splendid site. Padubidri end point, a spot where the river meets the sea makes for An ideal picnic spot.

BASADI

The uniqueness of Kere Basadi is that it is situated in the midst of the gentle green lake in Varanga. This Basadi is also known as Jalamandir. The tranquil lake contrasts with the quadrilateral architecture of the Basadi and the gentle swaying hills in the distance. It is believed that this Basadi has the history of over 850 years and is dedicated to lord Parshwanath, The 23rd Tirthankara.

ST. LAWRENCE CHURCH ATTUR

Built in 1759, St Lawrence Church is said to have a history for miracles. It is located at the foothill of Parpale hill in a small village of Attur, which is about 5 kms west of karkala bus stand. St Lawrence is widely worshiped and pilgrims believe that their prayers will be fulfilled after paying obeisance at the Shrine.
